After separating a section of hair, spray a thermal protection spray and then comb the section to both distribute the hair spray and to make sure that there are no tangles or knots.
Gently clamp the hair straightener at the roots of the hair and angle the iron slightly downward. Twist the iron towards or away from the scalp, depending on the desired direction of the curl. Allow the remaining hair to fall over the straightener in the same direction of the curl. For example, if the iron is twisted toward the scalp, allow the ends of the hair to fall over it toward the scalp.
Simultaneously pull the hair straightener down while continuing to twist the straightener in the same direction. Upon reaching the ends of the hair, unclamp the straightener and catch the curl and twist it in your hands in the same direction to reinforce the curl as it curls. For extra hold, spray it with the thermal hair spray once again.
