After interviewing the mothers about their use of insectide shampoos and other household chemicals the scientists found that using chemical shampoo to get rid of head lice could lead to a doubling in the risk of contracting childhood leukaemia. The risk was particularly acute when mothers used insecticides during pregnancy.
