Knowing Which Cables to Use

Posted by the author on October 21st, 2008

I know very little about cables. My husband fixes everything around the house. He tried once to explain it to me… something about 1080p hdmi cables… but I had no idea what all those numbers and letters were about. He recently got our television working, even after we bought a DVD player that he said didn’t come with the right cables. I figured he was just smart. However, he let it slip the other day that he read the article, “DVI to Component Cable, before starting on the television. Now I know his little secret.

Film & Video Production for Charity Events

Posted by the author on June 14th, 2008

Video coverage is not only reserved for special occasions like weddings, birthdays, or parties. If you are hosting a charity event or town event, why not create a video production to showcase it to others? You can imagine how many people are glued to their TV sets at an average of four hours or more per day. If you can reach out to those people and let them know about the event you will be holding, your project will be far from failing. One of the ways by which you can get more people to participate in charitable events is by showing the beneficiaries through video. More people can get convinced if they are aware of where their money would go, should they choose to attend these charity events. Furthermore, you can show them footage on the rewards of participating in charity events, like how much fun they can have, if it is a fund raising activity. There are so many ways by which the power of filmmaking and video can gather funds for projects that are made for a cause. All you need to do now is find a company that can cover your event for you. In Austin, Matthew and Company is among the well-known videographers who cover and make videos for special events including charities and local celebrations. They also have facilities that make it possible to cover aerial shots, which can make videos or advertisements more convincing and more attractive. You may look at the works done by the video production company at matthewandcompany.com. Find out how they can help you promote your project today.

Hdtv Amplified Antenna and other HDTV questions

Posted by the author on May 21st, 2008

Numerous folks are still puzzled about certain things when it comes to HDTV. This is not surprising at this is can be quite a “techie subject.

To help out, here are a few FAQ’s on the subject on HDTV:

• What is exactly is HDTV? HDTV is acronym for Higher Definition Television. This is different from EDTV (Enhanced Definition Television) and it’s dissimilar from SDTV (Standard Definition Television).

• How much should a HDTV set cost? Expect to pay in the region of $2,000 to over $3,000. At the end of the day it really depends on what you can personally afford and what your exact requirements are.

• Where is the best place to buy? My personal preference is online because I have found it to be cheaper. It’s common sense that on-line stores do not have the same overheads as offline outlets which they have to cover.

• Do I need an HDTV amplified antenna? This will depend on your proximity to local transmitters.

• Do I need a separate HD Tuner? If you are buying an HDTV it will normally come with an HD tuner installed. However if for example you want to turn your LCD monitor into an HDTV, you would need to buy an HD Tuner

• Can my old TV serve as HDTV? You can try but you won’t get very far! The best method to the ultimate picture and sound is from viewing HDTV channels is with a HDTV compatible television

Dish Signal Loss?

Posted by the author on January 23rd, 2008

In the earlier years of satellite tv providers, signal loss was a big issue. As a matter of fact when satellite tv first came out, something as innocent as a cloudy day could cause the most patient person go nuts waiting for the show they were watching to resume.

As technology advanced so did satellite tv to the point it now took clouds and a light rain. As a couple years went by technology once again made some signicant changes to where it took a heavy clouded day with a solid rain to lose signal.

Now that Dish Network has come out with it’s Dish Pro Plus systems it now takes one heck of a thunder or rain storm to affect signal strength. And quite often this scenario doesn’t always cause signal loss. As technology advances so does Dish making it now the best value for the money.

Fuzzy Picture

Posted by the author on January 22nd, 2008

“Why is my picture fuzzy?” For those who still subscribe to cable because of the fallacy that satellite tv will “always” lose it’s signal when it rains… here is the dilemma. The further you are from where the cable signal generates the weaker the signal will be. Often cable HD isn’t that much better than the regular satellite picture without HD.

How can this be? Really simple. Reason number one is that not all cable channels are digital. A considerable amount of cable channels are really analog still even with a “box” on your tv. Reason number two is that many cable customers don’t live right next to the cable source that generates the providers signals, therefore, before the signal ever gets to the vast majority of cable customers, it has already been deteriorated.

Now for that fallacy… no, satellite doesn’t always lose it’s signal when it rains. Granted with the first few lines of satellite television technology this issue was relevant. However, with all the technology upgrades and improvements this is rarely an issue.

As a result, subscribers save a lot of money and receive the best picture and sound possible… %100 digital every time, every channel, and every house. The signal is generated right at the Dish either attached to or installed by the customer’s house.

Dish Network in Houston Texas

Posted by the author on January 22nd, 2008

Houston like many other large cities has a vast array of products available to the consumer. And, when it comes to television programming, Houston is no different. From cable to satellite to fiber optics the choices are many just as the consumers who purchase these services.

Of course each provider offers different incentives and services, however, Dish Network offers the best overall product day in and day out. For the money, which is a main concern for many consumers, Dish Network the best value.

Dish Network in Houston is the lowest everyday price in this market. When comparing Dish Network’s regular price to the regular pricing of other companies, Dish wins every time. Also, those low promotional prices that often entice the unsuspecting customer and then blows them away with their regular price is not an issue with Dish Network.

Consumers should always ask the retailer what channels are included in each package to be sure the that if there any specific channels that are a must will be in the package they are considering.

For many, Dish Network in Houston has the best channel lineups offered for the money. In many cases the top tier of Dish Network’s lineups cannot be beat by anyone and certainly not for the price. So, feel free to give Dish Pro Satellite Inc. in Houston a call for more information on why Dish may be the best value in Texas.

Do All Movie Critics Write Professional Movie Reviews?

Posted by the author on December 19th, 2007

Professional movie critics such as Robert Ebert appear to know what they are talking about in their movie reviews. I admit that I find that I often agree with his movie critiques. However, having said that, movie reviews have never deterred me from watching a film that I really intended on seeing. In the end I must form my own opinion. Especially since I’ve seen a number of films reviewed poorly, but then I ended up liking them. Truth be told, I read the local movie reviews, find one the critics gave two thumbs down to, and head on over to the movie theater and watch it because there’s a greater than 50% chance that the movie reviews were all wrong. Not all of us have the same tastes and with that said, a lot of movie critics tend to let their own personal likes and dislikes taint their movie reviews which is totally unprofessional. A truly professional movie critic such as Robert Ebert has learned to ignore his personal likes and dislikes when critiquing a movie.

Cary Grant Movies – Hollywoods Funniest And Most Memorable Movies Ever Made

Posted by the author on November 23rd, 2007

In 1937, after his contract with Paramount Pictures came to an end, Cary Grant decided not to join any of Hollywood’s big studio’s, and work as an independent by choosing his own scripts to work for. This move would result in Cary Grant movies giving movie goers some of Hollywood’s finest, funniest and most memorable movies ever made. Some of Cary Grant’s most famous comedies were co-starred with none other than actress Katharine Hepburn. These great movies include “Holiday” and “Bringing up Baby”, both released in the year 1938. Other great Carry Grant movies filmed during his independent years are: “My Favorite Wife” and “The Awful Truth” in the year 1940 with Iren Dunne; “Gunga Din in 1939 with Victor McLagen and Douglas Fairbanks Jr.; “His Girl Friday” in 1940 with Rosalind Russell and my personal favorite “The Philadelphia Story” in 1940 with the wonderful cast of Jimmy Stewart and Katharine Hepbum.

What You Should Know About Home Theater Pictures

Posted by the author on November 3rd, 2007

Before you buy a home theater system, you need to think about picture quality. Home theater pictures should be clear and of high quality. Today’s television choices go beyond the traditional CRT or cathode ray tube most of us are accustomed to. Of course, the CRT type of television is still commonly used these days as it offers plenty of benefits. Also known as a direct view television, the CRT screen offers affordability and good to excellent picture quality. The downside to these televisions is their size limitations. Today’s cathode ray tube television screens are available in sizes up to but not exceeding 40 diagonal inches. Another downside to the CRT screen television is weight, as the largest of them are usually quite heavy.

HDTV Explained

Posted by the author on November 3rd, 2007

To maximize the benefits of a high-definition television, your TV should have the ability to receive HDTV channels. Receiving good reception will depend on the type of HDTV you have. If you already have an HDTV, it usually includes a built-in ATSC tuner that allows users to receive OTA (over-the-air) HDTV broadcasts. If you have an HDTV-ready television, then you can expect your TV to produce high-definition images, but you need to have an additional external tuner to receive broadcasts. Please visit Facts About HDTV for more information.

The Effect of the Media on Women’s Personal Identity

Posted by the author on November 1st, 2007

For many women, the media has a profound effect on how they view their bodies from a personal perspective. From the mass marketing of advertisements that depict thin women, to how behaviors of females should be, there is clearly a trademark being developed by the media on how women should look and feel. This is contributing to an extreme, as well as a versatile image on the characteristics of women today. However, statistics show that the women that are portrayed in these ads and advertisements are not actually vindictive of women in today’s decade. Even though it’s true that there are positive influences as well as negative ones, the fact is, the media is playing a tremendous role in how any female perceives her own personal identity.

Advantages Of An Lcd Widescreen Tv

Posted by the author on October 22nd, 2007

An LCD widescreen Television offers higher standards of performance compared with a regular widescreen TV. A great number of the broadcasts today, are presented in the 4:3 screen aspect ratio for public appeal. Due to the letterboxing (black bars that show at the top and bottom of the screen display ) after a while, a conventional widescreen television will seem to have faint black lines on the top and the bottom. With an LCD widescreen TV, this problem does not arise and is something known as ‘burn-in’. For these reasons alone an LCD Widescreen TV would be a better choice.

Why Satellite TV Is Better Than Cable

Posted by the author on October 7th, 2007

Since I was a cable television customer for more than 10 years, I feel that I am qualified to rate the service I received during that time. It was terrible.

I never received the "crystal clear" picture quality that the cable TV company boasted about in their commercials. Complaining to them never did me any good because they always told me there was no problem with my service. Since I lived in an area where I was unable to get good television reception with a roof-top antenna, I was pretty much stuck with watching cable TV.

I had wanted to try satellite television but I did not think it would work for me because of all the trees in my yard. I had planned to move in a few years anyway, so I just decided I would just wait it out and try satellite TV after I had moved.

One of the very first things I did after I moved was to sign up for DISH Network satellite TV. I was very anxious to try it and see how it compared to cable.

When I got my new DISH system installed, I was absolutely thrilled with the picture quality and have remained a satisfied customer ever since that day.

There are numerous promotions available for satellite service with new ones being introduced all the time. Just a few minutes on the Internet will reveal more DISH Network deals than you can imagine.

So why is satellite TV better than cable TV? Here are my reasons:

Satellite does not stop working when the weather or an accident takes the cable TV lines down. By the way, the weather does not affect satellite TV reception nearly as seriously as the cable TV companies want you to believe. In fact, much of the programming provided to their customers by cable television companies is received via satellite at the cable TV facility! How bad can it be?

My DISH Network bill has gone up very few times in the 9 years I have had the service. In comparison, my cable TV bill used to go up quite often — sometimes twice a year!

DISH Network currently offers the most HD channels of any national broadcaster and is always adding new channels. This may change in the future, but right now DISH Network is the HD champion.

Invest In An LCD HDTV

Posted by the author on October 6th, 2007

LCD TV sets with large screen formats supporting HDTV have been available for several years; however, they are more popular than ever today. The main reason for the recent increase in popularity of LCD TVs is that they used to be very expensive, but now, since a lot of manufacturers are making them, the competition has grown and the cost of the televisions has decreased.

If you have put off buying an LCD HDTV for some time, this might be a good time to think about investing in one. With the Christmas season approaching, many stores are going to have substantial discounts and sales, especially after Thanksgiving or the so called Black Friday. All the TV broadcast channels will switch to HD format in a few years so why not get ready for the future now?

The tv classic Little House on the Prairie

Posted by the author on October 3rd, 2007

I remember the classic show like Little House on the Prairie. I use to watch it every week. It was a great show the whole family could watch and it had real family values, which is rare in todays tv shows. I am not sure if it still plays on tv but you can still get them on VHS or DVD’s.

Transformers Movie

Posted by the author on September 7th, 2007

Transformers nerds feared that the movie would not live up to expectations because of director Michael Bay; however, they should be pleasantly surprised. The movie is based on genuine robots known as the Autobots and the antagonists known as the Decepticons. There were some convoluted scenes in the movie with Shia LaBeouf’s character and his glasses being the key that unlocks a “map. I know; I am just as confounded as you are because I have no idea what the hell the story was about. Needless to say, the plot is in complete disarray.

Megan Fox plays the sexy and immensely attractive woman. Her disastrous acting was more robotic than the actual transformers. No, I don’t know and don’t care who she played in the movie; moreover, I will just refer to her as the designated hot girl. When you look like that, you don’t need name. Transformers ringtones attempted to talk about something called Sector 7 (secret branch of the government). Why is there so much incongruous content in this movie regarding Sector 7? The computer generated images are brilliant, and the movie had its fair share of comedic elements.

Some of the action sequences were more disappointing that the series finale of the Sopranos because of the velocity. Countless things were transpiring simultaneously, to the point where it was arduous to decipher who was fighting who. These consisted of bullets flying through the air and gratuitous explosions. It may sound amazing, but I would like to know who or what is doing the shooting. At one point, it looked like Optimus Prime and Megatron were groping each other. The actions scenes looked as if they were all intentionally sped up.

Franchising Directories

Posted by the author on August 17th, 2007

Companies must take certain issues into perspective before franchising a company. The first would be to get the franchise registered with the U.S. Trade Mark office. A Trade Mark attorney would be able to take care of this process. The company needs to register the names of all the states where the franchisees are most likely to be opened. They must register for multiple units if relating to more than one franchise operation.

Movie Posters – “Born In The Golden Age of Hollywood”

Posted by the author on August 4th, 2007

Movie posters began as promotional items that were created by Hollywood film studios to advertise feature films. Today, movie posters are still being designed by studios to build awareness about a film. Movie posters are prominently displayed in the lobby of your local movie theater, in magazines, on billboards, on the sides of buses, and even on the on the internet. Movie posters can even be found in the towns and villages of countries all over the world.

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer who boasted that they had “more stars than there are in heaven,” set the industry standard for movie posters. Theirs was a starker, no-frills style of movie poster which was often dominated by a photo montage design. Columbia Pictures used a fake color process to colorize their movie posters. This turned their posters into movie poster art. This process was quickly copied by all the other studios. With their stable of top stars, Paramount using a minimum of text, produced sleek and witty posters. In the earlier days, promotional posters often featured a still from the film with the entire cast or a particularly memorable scene. Today’s modern movie posters usually contains a memorable image which defines the underlying theme of the film, such as C3PO and R2D2 from the Star Wars series or the “S” symbol from the Superman movie franchise. But I think that movie posters have become more than just promotional ads for the Hollywood film industry, in some cases they’re beautiful works of art.

720p Vs 1080i – Which Is Better?

Posted by the author on July 30th, 2007

Every TV which is described as HDTV or HDTV Ready is required to support both 720p and 1080i formats, but you still should know the difference between 720p vs 1080i. A 720p signal is made up of 720 horizontal lines. Each frame is displayed in its entirety on-screen for 1/30th of a second. This is know as progressive scan (hence the ‘p’). The quality is like watching 30 photographic images a second on TV.

A 1080i signal comprises 1080 horizontal lines but all the lines are not displayed on-screen simultaneously. Instead, they are interlaced (hence the ‘i’), ie every other lines is displayed for 1/60th of a second and then the alternate lines are displayed for 1/60th of a second. So, the frame rate is still 30 frames per second, but each frame is split into two fields, which your brain then puts together subconsciously.
