GPS Contracts Have Risks

Posted by the author on April 12th, 2010

Comparatively speaking, businesses haven’t been using GPS devices for very long. Because of this providers are constantly coming up with new features and creative pricing models to attract new customers. Some GPS providers offer advanced GPS devices with tons of applications for a cheap price but attach a lengthy contract to them.
Before investing in GPS devices businesses need to think about what they need in their GPS devices and whether or not to enter into a contract.
Many companies are considering GPS units because they want to stop unauthorized driving, accurately log mileage, spot inefficient routes, track their drivers in real-time, and let their drivers know they are being monitored. Most basic GPS devices offer these options and can cost less than $150. Having a bunch of other options can be nice but are not necessary and can end up being a distraction.
While entering into a contract can seem nice at first it often leads to disappointment. Because technology is rapidly improving it makes sense that soon after you enter into a contract a better GPS model will come out but you will be stuck with the ones you purchased. Also, if you need to scale back your operation you will be forced to keep the GPS devices you have even though you have more GPS devices than drivers. GPS units are good for reducing costs but you want to be sure that you are not stuck with a plan that suits you one month but not the next.
GPS units can be a sound investment when you get one that fits your needs, so be sure to do your research and pick one that most closely matches what you are looking for.

Ignorance Isn’t Bliss

Posted by the author on March 18th, 2010

Recently a customer of ours told us how GPS units had helped save him a substantial amount of money. He ran a business and was out of the office most of the time dealing with customers and suppliers. Because he was gone so much he suspected that his employees were using company vehicles at odd times and were clocking hours they weren’t working.
While he had his suspicions he didn’t have a way to prove them so one weekend he installed GPS tracking units into his vehicles without telling the drivers. He waited until Wednesday to check the information and when he did he got quite a shock. When he was out of his office his drivers would return at 3:30 but wouldn’t clock out until 5:00. Not only was that going on, he found out that his drivers were using the trucks to help their friends transport things from place to place, and were not paying for the gas they were using.
Because he didn’t pay his employees for time they weren’t working, the GPS units saved him a substantial amount of money and paid for themselves within a few days. On top of that, they helped keep his drivers in line once they learned about them.
Although it would be nice to trust all of your drivers it just isn’t realistic, and GPS devices can add an extra amount of comfort in knowing that you will be aware of every move your drivers are making.

Premium Truck Tarps

Posted by the author on February 17th, 2010

The first step is to make sure that the locations of your truck tarps tie down hooks are in the right place. Flip the braided rope over the corner so that the flaps and tie down ropes hang over each side of the box. The number of tie down hooks for truck tarps vary depending on the length of your truck tarp. If needed, use the hook to pull the braided rope and flap over the side of the box.

Each tie down hook of your truck tarps must be positioned so that the tie down rope can be reached from the ground. Next the bungee cord has to be stretched to reach the last truck tarps hook. The rope will have no slack. Make sure that the tie down hooks on your truck tarps are level with one another. To ensure proper hook placement on the truck tarps, first duct tape the rope to the box in place of the tie down hooks. Start with hook closest to the cab.

The next step to installing truck tarps is to position the first hook 6” (15.24cm) down and 12” (30.48cm) forward (toward the cab) from the first grommet. Next position the 2nd hook straight down from the truck tarps 1st grommet. This hook should be reached from ground. Then place the middle truck tarps hooks equal distances from the grommet. These hooks should be placed at the same height as the second hook on your truck tarps surface.

Next, position the last hook (closest to the truck tarps tailgate) below the last grommet at the same height as the others and weld all of the hooks into place. By following these steps you should have your truck tarps hooks securely in place.

Snap clip installation is also vitally important when putting together varying truck tarps. For this process, flip the rope back on top of the truck tarps surface, making sure to hold the bungee at all times.

The first snap clip is typically factory installed 5’-6” from the pullrod on all truck tarps. Open the clip and enclose the rope. Weave the second clip through the main pullrope where the ends of the bungee cords meet the main pullrope on the truck tarps body. Make sure the rope is taught when clipped. Installing snap clips on truck tarps is that simple!

Cape Town Car Hire

Posted by the author on February 9th, 2010

Cape Town car hire is a great choice of transport for travelling Cape Town and surrounds. The Cape is renowned for its vineyards, and meandering along a wine route is a really enjoyable experience, both for wine connoisseurs and teetotallers. Many wine estates now have hotels, spas, restaurants, live music and other activities for guests to enjoy. Renting a car is by far the easiest and most reasonable way to tour the wine routes.
Constantia Uitsig is a grand old dame of the Constantia Valley, a vineyard that has stood the test of time. The cellar produces sought-after wines, and the estate has developed a hotel, a spa and three restaurants for guests to enjoy. La Colombe is particularly well known. On-site attractions include: Constantia Uitsig Hotel (16 garden rooms), Constantia Uitsig Spa (treatments and therapies), La Colombe Restaurant (internationally recognised restaurant overseen by chef Luke Dale-Roberts), Constantia Uitsig Restaurant or enjoy a light snack at The River Café and you have to pop into the Wine Shop on your way out.
Groot Constantia is a well known and highly respected cellar that produces premium wines. The lovely estate dates back to 1685 when it was first established as a vineyard. Groot Constantia is a place of much fascinating history, but has “changed with the times” to become the charming estate it is today. Cellar tours take place every hour from 10am to 4pm.
The Constantia wine estates could collectively be termed the “Mother” of the wine industry in the Cape. Vineyards were planted and cultivated in Constantia in the late 1600s and the area has been producing wine ever since. The valley oozes history and heritage and is an upmarket, beautiful place to visit. Buitenverwachting means “beyond expectations”, and this is exactly the type of wine the estate produces. Buitenverwachting is one of the original Constantia wine farms and today creates a range of wonderful wines. The estate restaurant is also superb.
On-site attractions: Buitenverwachting Restaurant (one of the Cape’s finest restaurants), enjoy a picnic in the gardens (picnics are made up on-site and must be pre-booked) and the Vineyard picnics (arrange with Groot Constantia at least 24 hours in advance)
Cape Town car hire is the best idea for a relaxed tour of the Cape Wine Route.

South Africa Car Rentals

For the ideal travelling option, South Africa car rentals is the way to go. You will have all the flexibility you need to see as much as you can in the time you have. There’s plenty to do and see in South Africa, from the top of the map to the Cape Peninsula at the bottom of the African continent. Hiring a car gives you the flexibility where you can make your own choices and is more affordable than scheduled tour buses or expensive taxis.
Cape Town is unique and addictive and is known as the Mother City, Cape Town nestles at the bottom of Table Mountain and its surrounding summits of Devil’s Peak and Lion’s Head. The city’s Atlantic shoreline is reminiscent of the beautiful Mediterranean coast with jaw-dropping scenery at every turn. There is much to do and see, but make a priority of these attractions: Cape Town beaches, Chapman’s Peak Drive (take a picnic for one of the stopping points), Table Mountain and the V&A Waterfront.
The Karoo is something of a mystery. The distinctive landscapes are vast and the weather is extreme, yet life abounds. It has its own remarkable beauty. Karoo farms are famed for their great farm food, so if you need to break your journey a guest farm is a good place to stop over. Enjoy the space to breathe and think. There’s an abundance of delightful places to visit and things to do on the Garden Route, but these you can’t miss: George, Knysna, Plettenberg Bay, Bloukrans (highest commercial bungee jump in the world at 216m) etc.
With South Africa car rentals, you are guaranteed to have a relaxed trouble-free holiday.

Pickup Truck Cargo Liner

Posted by the author on February 11th, 2008

You may think you have no need for a cargo liner if you don’t work in construction or do much with the back of your truck like my husband does. However, you probably have a truck for a reason, and that means you have a need for the back at least once in a while. No matter what it is that you may put back there, you want to have the protection of a good cargo liner if you want your truck to last. On top of that, you want to protect your truck from the weather. You can have a cap on your truck for that reason, but the liner might still be a good call on your part.

The Blue Book Value Of Cars

Posted by the author on September 29th, 2007

When the price of used cars were first published in an effort to establish uniformity in cost one company published the pricing. They were published in a blue colored book and were referred to as the blue book value. Other pricing books came out that were not as extensive and accurate so the blue book value became the measure that car salesmen used to determine pricing.
