The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Posted by the author on January 5th, 2012The Jimi Hendrix Experience was Jimi Hendrix one and only band. According to some, Jimi was the premier American guitarist and singer-songwriter of our time, and one of the most influential musicians of this era across a wide range of genres. Rolling Stone Magazine named Jimi Hendrix the top guitarist on its list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all-time in 2003. James Marshall “Jimi” Hendrix was born Johnny Allen Hendrix on 11/ 27/ 1942 and died on 09/18/ 1970.
Jimi’s group, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, was initially formed in Britain and after much success touring Europe came to the United States and following his 1967 performance at the Monterey Pop Festival recorded their first album, Are you Experienced” ,which In 2006, was inducted into the United States National Recording Registry.
The Jimi Hendrix Experience only released three albums before disbanding. They are:
Are You Experienced (1967) Axis: Bold as Love (1967) Electric Ladyland (1968)
Jimi Hendrix also headlined at the Woodstock Festival in 1969 as well as the festival on the Isle of Wight in 1970.
Jimi’s last album release before his death was Band of Gypsies which was recorded live on New Year’s Eve 1970 and New Year’s Day 1971 at the Fillmore East.
His premature death later in 1971 saddened his fans as well as his fellow musicians as we all knew he had much more to share with us all. Here are a few of his thoughts in the form of quotes I would like to share…
I feel guilty when people say I’m the greatest on the scene. What’s good or bad doesn’t matter to me; what does matter is feeling and not feeling. If only people would take more of a true view and think in terms of feelings. Your name doesn’t mean a damn; it’s your talents and feelings that matter. You’ve got to know much more than just the technicalities of notes; you’ve got to know what goes between the notes.
You have to forget about what other people say, when you’re supposed to die, or when you’re supposed to be loving. You have to forget about all these things.
