I had difficulty resting, so we added acoustical wall panels.

Posted by the author on March 10th, 2010

We live near a lady with a very loud yapping dog. It’s a very good natured animal, but the noise was waking me up early every morning, so after discussing it with my wife, we made the decision to get some acoustical wall panels in an effort to dampen the noise. We hired a great team of guys to work on it, and they did a fantastic job, so now I’m considering adding some external timber cladding to my house as well. They quoted me a very reasonable price, and now I just need to go to the hardware store and find out what the timber cladding wall will cost.

The acoustical wall panels are the first real home improvement I’ve ever done, and the experience was so positive, that I’m thinking I may do a lot of improvements to my home. I could add a guest room, or an office, and the value of the place would go up. I’m not sure what the external timber cladding will add to the price of the home, but I’m guessing that a timber cladding wall would have to make some difference in the overall value.

Now that we have the acoustical wall panels, It’s great to be able to finally sleep without the sound of the barking dog, and I feel good knowing that I will soon have some external timber cladding to make my house look better. I’ve seen homes set up with a timber cladding wall before, and they look really great, so I can’t wait to see how it looks on our house.

How To Use Home Repair Credit To Fix Up Your Home

Posted by the author on March 9th, 2010

Home repair credit is usually the best option to fixing up you home. Financing any additional work on your home from a loft conversion to remodeling the master bedroom is going to be expensive and unless you have a large amount of money in savings you will need to arrange a home improvement loan. Not many homeowners have the confidence to attempt home improvements on their own so they need the services of tradesmen which are a costly part of the plan.

A home improvement loan is available to every homeowner to improve their property but remember that sometimes it will have to be a secured loan. The last responsibility a new homeowner wants is that of it being used as equity for a loan to improve it. Home repair credit to improve a home is normally arranged to run for up to fifteen years when equity is not required.

Laminate Flooring Measuring Instructions

Posted by the author on March 9th, 2010

Laminate Flooring is becoming increasingly popular and the question I keep getting asked time and again is ‘How do I measure for Laminate Flooring’. But before I get into the details here are some other things you need to consider. For doorways you will need one of the following transition profiles. End Cap - This is used in doorways that meet carpet, ceramic or stone tiles. It can also be used to finish off the flooring against things like a sliding glass door.

Reducer - You use this when there is a difference in height between the laminate flooring and the floor covering you are meeting up with like linoleum or vinyl T Moulding - This is needed in doorways where laminate meets laminate. Or for anytime a hard surface is within 1/8 inch. of being the same height as the laminate, you will can use a T moulding. Finishing of around the perimeter of the room. With Laminate Flooring you have to leave an expansion gap, of around 10mm, anywhere the flooring meets a wall…

Kitchen Decorating Ideas

Posted by the author on March 8th, 2010

Not sure what you are going to do with your kitchen? You are not alone. Many people want to see something different but they do not have the money to redo their entire kitchen. If you are one of these people, there are some smaller kitchen decorating ideas that you can use to make your room look new and bright without spending a lot money. Most are easy changes, and some take some work. No matter what you choose, even a small change can make a huge difference in how you feel when you are in the kitchen. Feeling good about any room makes it more enjoyable.

Changing color around or just adjusting it a bit is one of the most common of kitchen decorating ideas. You can paint the whole room, but you do not have to do this if you don’t have the time or the money. What you can do is see if you have room for a wallpaper border in the room. Shop around for something that has the colors you want and put it up. Most of these are easy to use and you can get them up in a few hours at the most. You can also go out and buy new towels and other disposable items at a kitchen store to add new color to what you have. Both work very well for a cheap and easy kitchen upgrade.

It could be that your small appliances are what are making your kitchen seem outdated or even cluttered. Go through what you have and put away what you do not use at least once a week. Store them nearby, but remember you do not need these clogging up your counter space if space is limited. You may even want to go out and buy new ones if you feel that the ones you have are dating the look of your kitchen. Kitchen decorating ideas would suggest you get everything in the same color so that they appear to match. That makes any kitchen look more put-together and less messy.

Other kitchen decorating ideas suggest that you do something with your kitchen flooring. You may not think about about it, but a dingy or outdated floor will ruin the rest of your kitchen décor. Your kitchen may be great in all other ways, but the floor is making you hate how it feels. If you like your flooring, give it a good scrubbing and refinish (depending on the floor) to give your room a newer look. You can also replace that old tile or vinyl floor that has been there for way too long with something new without too much trouble. New tile takes some work, but it always looks great when finished.

If you feel that your kitchen is just as you want it but something small needs to change, there are kitchen decorating ideas for help with very small changes that make a huge difference. Go out and get new hardware for your cabinets and drawers. Get new window treatments, and update the blinds that you have if you use those. Get a new spice rack or put your spices out of view, and think about a newer, sleeker looking cutting board for a whole new and functional look to your kitchen.

Decorative Painting in Michigan

Posted by the author on March 2nd, 2010

It was well overdue so I commissioned some decorative painters to paint my house which was in sore need of repairs. Before I called the decorative painting company, my house looked like a total dump despite the considerable amount of money which I had invested in it. The outside of my house had a thick layer of grime ground into it that even a rainstorm, or a pressure hose would not wash out and when the decorative painter I talked to said that it would need to be scraped and have an entirely new coat of paint, I can’t say that I was exactly surprised. But the decorative painting company’s foreman was nice and gave me a very reasonable estimate, and soon the whole decorative painter’s team was hard at work on my house.

When hiring decorative painters or any other people to do work on your house, it is important to know that you are working with a reputable company. A decorative painting company will typically bid on the house as a contract, so the decorative painters have no real incentive to take their time and do their work properly, except for the pride that they take in their work. Many decorative painters often do a hasty, sloppy job to get it over with and do as many jobs as possible quickly, and so, even if they tarnish their own reputation, they will always have the option of finding new work with people who do not know them. But the decorative painting company hired gave me references, which are very important to obtain, and I was able to call people and confirm that they were as good at what they did as they claimed to be. What a relief it was to know that!

The decorative painters took about a week to do the whole house, inside and out, which is not at all bad. People say bad things about the decorative work ethic – which decorative painters will do anything just to avoid working harder than they absolutely have to, but I think the opposite is true. decorative painters work harder than their counterparts in any other country, who are more likely to be relaxing, taking vacations, and enjoying themselves whenever they get a chance, instead of diving with obsessive single-mindedness into their work to the exclusion of all else, the way an decorative painter does.

Decorating with Ceramic Lamps

Posted by the author on February 24th, 2010

I love using different ceramic lamps scattered about the room. It creates a lovely effect, and ceramic lamps are really so artistic. Of all the different things that one chooses so carefully when redecorating a room, nothing requires as much care as lighting. Just imagine even the most beautiful room under harsh, one-dimensional fluorescent light, and you’ll see what I mean. I tend to go in for many different sources of light rather than one bright source. This tends to soften shadows in the room, and also draws attention to interesting areas and objects.
