1. Select costumes for your child that are weather appropriate for your region. Make sure your children do not sweat or freeze in their costume. If you live in a warm climate than a costume with heavy fur and hood would not be appropriate. Similarly, a thin princess like dress would be not viable for cold regions. Be creative you can get your children to wear their costume over their coats-just purchase a bigger size, if necessary.
2. Get Noticed this Halloween night! Along with wearing a fun children’s costume think safety –let your children wear something visible. It can be a flashlight, glow bracelet or necklace or flashing attire visibility. Some trick or treaters bags are now also glow in the dark. Even shoes that light up are practical making the children noticeable.
3. Wear comfortable footwear when trick or treating. Children should wear sneakers since they are better fitting to walk, climb up and down the stairs. Be ware that kids may get blisters from brand new shoes, high heels or large boots that have been recently purchased to go with their costume. Save this type of footwear for indoors such as; costume parties, Halloween school activities or special events. At all costs, you want to avoid carrying either the shoes or your child during trick or treating.

6. When picking a costume for your child be sure it is age-appropriate and bathroom-friendly as well. Parents should also consider incorporating a bathroom stop into the pre-plan route whether it’s a public place coffee shop or a family or friend’s house. This is also a great opportunity to take a water break to keep children hydrated, a quick rest before continuing the route.
7. When selecting a mask choose the types that are easy to put on and off, that slide up and down. Masks that allow full visibility and breathing for children are the best. There are some masks, for example with only small eye slits and nothing for the nose or mouth. In this situation, do not be reluctant to cut out larger openings for a trick or treater’s comfort.
8. Trick or treating should be a fun and positive experience for everyone. Only allow your kids to carry plastic flexible props, such as knives, canes, swords and other items that can’t cause injury if your child accidentally falls. No play weapons or items resembling the real item should be considered. Some parents may get offended.
9. When picking a goody bag for your trick or treaters think “practical” over “cute”. Some fun containers sold in stores are heavy even before any treats are added. Others are too long and will drag onto the ground or have sharp edges that could harm your child or scrape against tender skin. Select a bag that is size appropriate for your child. Sometimes you can use a backpack to keep your child’s hands free except for perhaps a flashlight.

Real Air Hockey Games Used to be so much Fun

It seems that the modern family no longer interacts like it once did. What happened to the entire clan sitting at the dinner table together and chatting about how their day has been?
