If you’re getting into video production, you still have a few things to learn, even if you’ve already finished your first big project. After the week or month it took to write the script, the shooting, the editing, and posting online and networking on Myspace and Facebook to get some views, you may be surprised to see Youtube pull your video before the day’s through because you used some copyright protected music. This is what happens when you don’t use audio production music.

It’s a common beginner’s mistake to ignore copyright issues. When you’re flying under the radar, maybe you can get away with it, but as soon as you’ve got more than a couple hundred views, you’ll be caught. Music isn’t free. You need to license all those Beatles songs you put on your video.

Luckily, audio production music is incredibly cheap and easy to attain. You can use this music however you please, however many times you please, just by buying it once. The internet is full of talented musicians just looking to make a few bucks on their craft, and many of them do this through library music, so take full advantage of this.

These musicians typically distribute either through downloads or CD, so you can either buy a song or an album at a time and really build up an impressive little library to use however you please for as long as you like.

The music is typically one hundred percent royalty free, meaning that, once you’ve paid for it once, you never have to spend another dime. So one CD can last you for an entire year’s worth of video projects, and then some.

It’s several times cheaper than using copyright protected music, it’s a lot cheaper and easier than hiring a musician to write some original music for you, and you can use each song as many times as you like, which isn’t true of those other methods of getting music for your video projects. Not to mention, when you hire a musician, you’re going to have to spend a lot of time working back and forth to get what you’re looking for, or they might actually just let you select from their library in the first place, but charge you a bit more than you would for library music.

The only question this leads: Is the music itself any good? Well, luckily, you can listen to most of the music on the musician’s website before buying it, so you can guarantee that the music you’re buying is right for your video project.
