Have Hearing Loss – Hearing Aids Can Help
Posted by the author on May 25th, 2009Many people in the united states wear an hearing aid as a result of some type of hearing impairement. Hearing aids help to amplify sound, and is a small electronic device that is worn behind the ear. Only a small amount of people that need the assistance of a hearing aid actually wear one. The components of a hearing aid are the amplifier, the microphone and the speaker. The microphone converts sound waves into electrical signals in which the amplifier then increases the loudness of the signals sending them to the ear through the speaker.
Damage to a persons hearing can be the result of disease, injury from noise or environmental factors, aging or medications. Hearing aids can be beneficial to people who have a loss as a result of damage to the sensory cells of the inner ear, although it would be ineffective in certain situations. A hearing aid would be ineffective if there is too much damage to the inner ear, in this case vibrations no matter how large could not be converted into neural signals.
Hearing aids come in three basic types. The behind the ear hearing aids which are used for mild to profound hearing loss. The in the ear hearing aid which is used for people with mild to severe hearing loss. The canal aid is a one that comes in two styles. The in-the-canal-aid hearing aid and the completely-in-canal hearing aid. These types of hearing aids are used for people who have mild to severe hearing loss.
