Posted by the author on January 29th, 2007

In an earlier post I talked about Robert Whitfield the narrator and did mention that his real name is Simon Vance. The Scoop on Celebrity Homes

Posted by the author on January 28th, 2007

I never really thought about celebrity homes until I saw a show on MTV about them. I believe it’s called MTV Cribs, but I’m not really sure. I only saw it a few times. When it comes down to it, I doubt I would want to buy any of the celebrity homes I saw on TV…even if I had the money to do so.

I’ll admit, some of the homes were pretty cool, but I thought they were also a little over the top, even for celebrities. The decor in some of them was outright garish. I can only hope that many of the ones not shown on this show are done a little more tastefully. There were some great ideas but there were also some that were taken so far to the extreme that the home didn’t even look like a home any longer.

Common Misconceptions Surrounding Diabetes

Posted by the author on January 28th, 2007

That if you eat too much sugar it can actually cause diabetes.
No one really fully understands the cause of diabetes, although eating excessive sugars is definitely not one of the causes of diabetes.  The general belief is that Diabetes is actually generic, and can be triggered by certain life style and environmental factors.  Although of course it could be argued that if you eat excesses of sugar, then this could lead to weight gain, and being extremely overweight is certainly one factor that is known to increase your risk of developing type II Diabetes.  It is not the sugar, but the excess weight though.

How Drum Lampshades Can Spruce Up Your Home

Posted by the author on January 28th, 2007

Drum lampshades are the new look at the moment. Drum lampshades, for those who are wondering, are the cylindrical lampshades that you often see sitting on the floor. They stretch up to 3′ (1 m) high or more.

The reason that they are such a good addition to your home is because they have a simple form (the cylinder) but excellent patterns and textures around the cylinder. For example you can get a drum lampshade with stripes on linen, or a drum lampshade with a circle print on a furry material.

Sigmund Freud And Dream Interpretation

Posted by the author on January 28th, 2007

In the early part of the 19th century, dream interpretation had fallen out of fashion, and almost no one practiced this art seriously.  In the early part of the century, dreams were thought to have no meaning at all, and to be simply the result of a heavy meal before bedtime, noises heard in the night and other trivial causes. Easy Ways To Help Prevent Acne

Posted by the author on January 28th, 2007

Acne manly occurs because pores become clogged by oil and then by dust. This is in no way implying that poor facial hygiene leads to acne. People who wash their face frequently also get acne. Hence, cleaning of face should be done in such a way that it removes all the traces of oil. ….

Teenage Children – Chilled or Furnace like?

Posted by the author on January 28th, 2007

Teenagers! One minute as parents our relationship is great, the next, Whoosh! up it goes in flames – again. Is that how seems in your family?

Bringing up teenagers is for sure a challenging prospect and one of seemingly precarious balance. It is so easy to drop the wrong side of the ridge and at times it seems that whatever you do it is ‘out of the chip pan and into the fire’ [an English saying].

It used to be that way in my family, all calm and comfortable with everyone getting on well with their own things, me with my hobbies and my teenage children doing well… whatever it is that teenagers do….and that was part of the problem…. the gap of ages so to speak.

It used to really wind me up when following a perfectly innocent…

Recording Lead Vocals in the Studio

Posted by the author on January 27th, 2007

There is no particular microphone you should use when recording lead vocals unless your vocalist has a very quiet voice, in which case you’ll probably have to use a condenser microphone to avoid too much hiss being recorded. There is a certain amount of psychology involved in getting a good vocal performance, some singers know what to do and when they’ve achieved it, others need lots of encouragement and directing. Sometimes you’ll just have to accept that the singer’s not in best form on that day and arrange another time to record. If the singer has a very sibilant sound then you might like to experiment with a ribbon or dynamic microphone to reduce the high frequncies.

Make sure you use a good windshield with a ribbon microphone as it’s prone to damage when blasts of air hit the diaphragm. Different microphones suit different singers so experiment a bit while they get used to the track….. read the full Lead Vocal Recording article here.
