Singing Competitions

Article about Singing Competitions

Singing competitions are not a new thing, though one just tuning into those being televised might think so.  When weahemforty-somethings were kids, we participated in talent shows in school, had Fourth of July singing competitions, and even had slim opportunities to go to the small local broadcasting station to enter a small local talent search. I cannot find the historical (lol) data now, but I do remember entering by mail one of the annual singing competitions produced by a modest TV station in Boston, Mass..  I did it discretely, without my parents’ permission, though, so when I was notified of my acceptance as a contestant, I was not allowed to go.

Stop Walking On Eggshells

Article about Stop Walking On Eggshells

Stop walking on eggshells!  I would bet you have heard or thought that on more than one occasion.  Excuse me for sounding like Susan Powter of a few years ago with her Stop the Insanity! routine, but if you are or have the tendency to be a passive, obsequious, deferent doormat, you need to stop walking on eggshells!  Or, you may be intelligent, hard-working, confident, and together, but involved with an addict or alcoholic or otherwise abusive person.  Yes, this happens more often than we would guess to such people who find themselves giving in to, feeding, or enabling less than appropriate behaviors and attitudes.

Wedding Present

Article about Wedding Present

Friends of ours got married in mid-October and we made every effort to make it to their wedding. We live out-of-province, so the trip would be quite lengthy. We thought about driving but opted to fly, figuring that the cost would be more practical, then the time off work and utter exhaustion involved in driving the 2400 kilometres to get there. Unexpectedly, I ended up in the hospital, just days before the wedding. We were already in a panic about what to buy for a wedding present, and now I was completely out of commission.

Temporary Color

Article about Temporary Color

My hair has been just about every color of the rainbow. By nature I have a rather rich, dark brown color to my hair, however, both of my younger sisters were born blonde and I must admit this held the key to my dissatisfaction over the years. As a teenager I experimented by splashing peroxide into my hair and going out in the sun. Or sometimes I would take a little lemon juice to my strands hoping to create some blondish highlights. I never ended up with more than a slight change to my hue, and it wasn’t until I moved out from home, that I started my hair experimentation in earnest.

The Benefits of Acne Body Wash

The Benefits of Acne Body Wash
If you’re like me, you not only get acne on your face now and then, but all over your body as well. Although I normally only get acne on my face and back, I’ve had at least some amount of acne on just about every area of my skin at one point or other in my life. My feet, legs, and (ahem) genital area seems to be the only places to escape it completely so far. While there is a certain relief to that fact, having acne on my scalp, back, butt, chest, stomach, and shoulders is not exactly fun. For this reason I’ve done plenty of experimenting with acne body washes.

Options are contracts on some underlying trading instrument - shares of stock, bonds, a commodity, a mortgage loan, etc. (The list is endless.) But regardless of what the option is on, there are common features. One of the most basic is the contract feature specifying what the option owner has actually contracted for. Read more about options calls and puts

How To Identify Plants in Your Region

Posted by the author on May 30th, 2006

Apart from the obvious such as tulips, daffodils and stinging nettles, I couldn’t tell the difference between a common grass and a lucky bamboo plant. I wasn’t happy with this ignorance as I got older and decided to do something about it. I really wanted to learn how to identify plants and I’m pleased to report it was a lot easier than first anticipated. Even with the tens of thousands of plants and flower varieties around, it’s not overwhelming if you take it piecemeal.

The Advantages Of An Audio CD Book

Posted by the author on May 30th, 2006

Some people hate read but love literature. How’s that for confusing? And frustrating, if you are trying to buy a Christmas, birthday, or other gift for this person. For example, I have a brilliant friend who is the Albert Schweitzer of computer programmers and developers. It makes sense that working at a computer reading a screen ten hours a day depletes his interest in hard copy text. At the same time, he loves stories, comic tales, and intellectual comedy in general. And he is a devotee of NPR, Car Talk, and other radio talk programs. So the most logical and generous thing to do for him is buy him something that will talk to him, tell him tales, make him laugh: an audio CD book is the thing.

A Showcase Of As Seen On TV Products

Posted by the author on May 29th, 2006

As seen on tv products are basically products that have been show cased or featured in an infomercial at some point. as seen on tv means that they were shown on tv in all of their so called remarkable, revolutionary, and time saving innovation. I say “so called,â€? because, although some of these as seen on tv products are really kind of nifty if not exactly out right revolutionary, many of them are just stupid, pointless gizmos which won’t help with anything or save you any time. It is difficult to understand how someone would even want to use any of these products!

The Importance Of Artist Resources

Posted by the author on May 29th, 2006

Anyone who has heard the term “starving artist, knows that those in the art profession need every possible break they can get to increase the number of times their work is viewed, the possibility of it being purchased and the chance to improve their craft. Without artist resources that provide the opportunity to share work, network with other artists, the community cannot expand to the capacity that is available to them.

Find Your Soulmate

Article about Find Your Soulmate

There’s no need for concern over whether it is “rightâ€? or “appropriateâ€? seeking out a matchmaker.  That is, we singles in the twenty-first century are not uniqueâ€â€?matchmaking has been going on for much longer than we have been breathing.  While the use of a dating matchmaker online might be a modern construct, the marital matchmaker is not novel (and surely not unusual to many if not most cultures and subcultures.  In general, ancient traditionsâ€â€?going back thousands of years–lent themselves to the employment of a matchmaker, one who would (indirectly) ensure the continuation of the clanship, the family bloodline, and the perpetuation of valuesâ€â€?be they religious, social, or political.

Poetry

Article about Poetry

Everyday we all read countless words.  We read words on signs, on menus, and on buses.  We read words in the grocery store and at the coffee shop.  We certainly read words at the library, and in the morning paper.  So often, and even perhaps too often, these words that we read day-to-day pass by us without leaving an impression.  These words fly by our eyes and ears, as the meaning and intent of them may very well go in one ear and out the other.  We take these words and we speak them, we scan over them, and we use them as we need them.

Sleek And Efficient Apple Desktop Computers

Posted by the author on May 29th, 2006

Are you old enough to remember the days before computers? If you are, then you know that back then, a typewriter was just a typewriter. Then IBM came out with the one with the ball. You could do something no ordinary person thought was possible-change the font.

The personal computer changed everything particularly in the way we created documents. Now the rest is history with some many applications, games; how can anyone live without a computer? The problem is that we have been brainwashed and our senses dull to into thinking there is only one type of computer. Not true.

Like you probably have, I have been tied, eye and hands, to a computer for about ten years and I too thought that all computers were created equal until I started using an Apple desktop computer or Mac.

Picking Up Girls

Article about Picking Up Girls

As most guys have probably figured out, picking up girls isn’t nearly as easy as it sounds.  Unfortunately, the best advice out there for picking up girls is to “just talk to them.  As it turns out, girls like to talk.  They even like to talk to guys, and they like it even more when those two things come together.  This isn’t as common as it may seem, since most guys are like you: talking to attractive women is scary to them.  This is understandable.  Most of us get nervous when we start talking to women, and especially when we talk to attractive women.

As you might imagine, in our increasingly neurotic society, there are many many anxiety treatments available today. But, though most people in America might hesitate to admit it, more choices does not necessarily mean better. With alternative therapy, counseling, medication, meditation, nutrition, and anxiety support groups all competing as anxiety treatments, and with each one claiming that it is the best, sometimes to the exclusion of any other, it can be difficult to find out what is the right option for you.
